On Friday, October 7th, 2022, Terry Sawchuk made an appearance on The Steve Gruber Show. What happens when the US dollar weakens?
A weaker dollar is not good for an American consumer, right? We buy so many things that come from overseas that, from a consumer standpoint, the strong dollar is pretty good. The problem is number one, that it’s creating havoc on the rest of the world, and number two, it’s inversely related to certain types of assets. If the dollar continues to strengthen, it’s going to be a problem.
Terry isn’t a huge fan of index funds, and he thinks this is where a lot of where America invests their money. The problem with index funds is twofold; Firstly, you have companies like Vanguard, BlackRock, and State Street, and they’re responsible for the woke agenda. Secondly, they’re all in stock. Meaning, when the markets go down on the index, funds get crushed. Currently, we are going through a secular change, and Terry says now is the time to be conservative. Cash is king, if you have cash, you can wait this out. There will be a bottom and when the bottom is put in, there’ll be some unbelievable values, but we’re not done doing the damage yet.
We’re going through a secular shift right now, and we’re heading into a more bearish time, political unrest, financial turmoil, and we’ve got too much debt. Terry would say now is a time to be conservative. This is not blanket financial advice and he is not telling anybody to do anything specifically.
