Whenever the stock market fluctuates, one thing typically happens: a handful of media outlets use it as clickbait to scare investors. However, slight market movements are typically not as detrimental to portfolios as news networks make it appear. To help paint a more accurate picture of the current state of the market for investors, The Steve Gruber Show recently turned to Terry Sawchuk, founder and chairman of Sawchuk Wealth, for an insightful two-part segment.

“There’s a couple things going on,” Sawchuk says regarding the market. “Number one, we are at a point where we’re down almost five percent from the all-time high. To put that into perspective, we really need a ten percent correction just to take a little froth out of the markets. So, this is pretty healthy.”

Sawchuk also explains to Steve Gruber that many people on social media are currently living by the slogan BTD, an acronym for “buy the dip,” and he believes that this is on par for what is occurring. “This is an opportunity to buy in on prices that are a little better than they were. I think we still have a little more volatility to go.”

As for the future of the market, Sawchuk believes that the pending infrastructure bill may initially create a stock market bounce.

“Once we get through the debt ceiling and all the headline risk, it’s possible we could see a fourth quarter like we saw in 2019 with the S&P up five to ten percent, and that’s great for asset prices. We are going to dip a little more before that happens though.”
